I think its ok for folks to express they are upset. The only people blowing this rather tame backlash way out of proportions is the press with their constant allusions to the supposed "toxic" gaming community. In the end most of them know that it's just a video game and that life will go on. Nobody is being harmed, nobody is being threatened and no Blizzard fan is going around smashing things to pieces. To them it's like a kick in the groin and their reaction is quite understandable from a logical perspective.Īlso what's wrong with people expressing their disdain? They write some angry comments, like or dislike a few youtube videos, maybe sign a petition, make a few snark memes and complain about it with their friends. Turning a beloved franchise into a low effort cash-grab filled to the brim with micro-transactions and greedy gacha mechanics is bound to disappoint people, especially if they are loyal fans. If you want to profit off of a strong fanbase (and profit Blizzard did), you've also got to accept the downsides that comes with it.

You can't cultivate a loyal die hard fanbase that allows you to rake in big cash and not expect them to become emotionally compromised when you let their expectations down.

From a logical perspective you can't have it both ways.
